Aims and scope

International Journal of Mental Health Systems (IJMHS) publishes the latest mental health research and health systems research, reviews, case studies and guidelines, policy, debates, technical and methodological advances, and lessons from the field that will advance and shape the emerging discipline of global mental health.

About the Editor

Daniel V. Vigo, MD, Lic. Psych, DrPH

After obtaining a Bachelor’s+Master’s degree in Psychology, an MD, and a University Specialization in Psychiatry, Dr. Daniel Vigo worked in clinical, research, teaching, and leadership positions across sectors (public hospitals, NGOs, and for-profit organizations). He obtained his Doctorate at Harvard University, where he focused on burden of disease estimation and health systems planning. His contribution to improving the estimation of the mental health-related disease burden is among the most impactful papers of all time (top 0.1 percentile, as tracked by Altmetrics). He is an Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia, a Lecturer at Harvard Medical School, an Advisor to PAHO and WHO, and Chair of the Mental Health Services Workgroup of the WHO-World Mental Health Surveys Initiative (the largest global research collaboration gathering primary mental health epidemiology data). Dr. Vigo leads projects on Needs-Based Planning for Mental and Substance Use Disorder Services (funded by the BC Ministry of Health and Health Canada), Care Options for People with Severe Substance Use Disorders (BC Ministry of Health,), Estimating Coverage and Quality of Care for Mental Disorders (WHO-WMHSI), Estimating the Global Disease Burden of Mental Disorders (PAHO/WHO), E-mental health for University Students (Health Canada), and Machine learning applied to administrative data to predict adverse mental health outcomes (Canadian Institutes of Health Research).
